La Ruta del Mescalero 2007
This year I had the opportunity to
participate in my first long bike race. It is called la Ruta del
Mescalero. Begins at the Walmart on Transmountain Road and ends in
Ruidoso. It is about 140 miles. I had a hard time keeping up with the
group. I wish I could have done better. However, I was able to finish my
objective to ride all the way from El Paso to Tularosa (~ 100 miles). My
brother and other more dedicated bike riders were able to finish the
race. No matter what other people say, the race was not
easy. It was fast. We were suppose to be going 18 miles per hour but
that was not the case. I think the average speed was around 20 miles per
hour from El Paso to Tularosa. I have read the BLOGS from other bike
riders and they complained that the race was too slow. I think they are
just showing off. Well, I am going to try to do better next year. I
promise I wont drink beer at least one week before the event. On this
occasion I went the Sonoma Country one week before the event to present
a research paper to the American Institute of Aerospace and Aeronautics
(AIAA) and I hade too many beers during that week.
Tour de Tolerance 2007
I just completed another bike event of 60
miles. The race started in Fort Bliss, went to Texas Edge and then Loop
375 all the way to Montana Exit and finished in Fort Bliss. I
completed the race in 3.5 hours. My brother Carlos did it in 3 hours and
5 minutes, that is 25 minutes faster than me. The guy that won completed
the race in 2 hours and 40 minutes. I think I am slowly improving. If I
can lose 20 pounds I could improve my time by 30 minutes.
